How To Help

There are many ways you can help FJCASP and the animals they serve. Without the help of volunteers like you our organization would be unable to exist and countless animals would go unaided. If you are interested in helping, please contact friendsofjcas@gmail.com and learn about some of the ways you help us to reach our goal of 1,000 animals saved.

FOSTER

Fosters are by far the most valuable asset to our organization – and they are in high demand! Fostering allows us to move animals out of the shelter to keep more kennels open and prevent unnecessary euthanasia. In order for animals to leave on transport and head to other rescues they must be out of the shelter for a minimum of 2 weeks, and the average length of a foster term is 4-6 weeks. All medical costs are covered by FJCASP, you simply provide shelter, food and love. How wonderful to be such an integral part of saving an animal’s life and helping it to find a forever home! If you are interested in fostering, please visit our “Foster Info” page for more information and to fill out a foster application form.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are welcomed by FJCAS to help with a variety of needs. Some of these include helping to walk dogs at our adoption events, assisting with loading animals and crates for events, offering to let FJCAS have an adoption event at your place of business, helping transport animals to northern rescues, and performing home inspections for potential adopters. If you are interested in volunteering for FJCAS, please fill out the Volunteer Application below and send to friendsofjcas@gmail.com.

DONATE

Donations are always greatly appreciated – and tax deductible! Frequently needed items include: dog food, cat food, cat litter, leashes, collars, harnesses, empty pill bottles, and old towels or blankets, among other things. You can also see a list of needed items via our Amazon Wish List and purchase directly from there (see list below), or choose to give a monetary donation via PayPal(fjcasp@gmail.com).  Please note that donations to the Jackson County Animal Shelter do not go to FJCAS.  In addition, all animals have an adoption fee, but a person can choose “sponsor” that animal and pay their adoption fee upfront. Please see a list of our adoptable animals if you would like to sponsor one. If you are interested in donating any items or sponsoring, please contact friendsofjcas@gmail.com

SPAY & NEUTER

One of the easiest ways to help our cause is to spay and neuter your pets. The average number of litters a fertile cat produces is one to two a year; the average number of kittens is four to six per litter. The average number of litters a fertile dog produces is one a year; the average number of puppies is four to six. The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for a year (ASPCA.org). Spaying and neutering your pets helps to ensure less animals end up at the shelter and also helps give animals already in the shelter a better chance at being adopted.

EDUCATE

Please be an advocate for our cause! Encourage others to adopt – don’t shop! Shelter animals make wonderful pets, and many are pure bred. Please encourage others to visit their local shelter if they are thinking about getting a pet, and help educate on the importance of spaying and neutering!
