Volunteer

FJCASP relies entirely on individuals who have a passion for helping save the lives of animals. The shelter we pull from is always overflowing with stray and unwanted animals which means there is always work to be done by rescues.  Unfortunately that will continue until…well until people become more responsible for their pets – that means spay/neuter, vaccinate, microchip, give preventatives, train, and love them unconditionally.  So you’re wondering how you can help…

FOSTER – THE BACKBONE OF RESCUE

Fosters are by far the most valuable asset to our organization – without them, we are unable to rescue animals.  Fostering gets animals out of the shelter and into homes so they can get any essentials they need and have a better chance of being adopted.  It also frees up shelter kennels for others, which in turn helps prevent unnecessary euthanasia.  Here are some Fostering Basics:

  • Average commitment of 6-12 weeks (minimum of 2 and could be longer than 6 if heartworm positive)
  • All veterinary expenses are provided by FJCASP
  • We’ll help get good pictures and bios to help them get adopted
  • You provide shelter, food, leashes/collars, over-the-counter meds (if needed)
  • Fosters are also asked to help with basic training and socialization to help increase adoption chances

PUT YOUR TALENTS TO WORK

So you can’t foster but you want to help?  Well, here are some things you could help with:

  • Come out to the adoption events and help us sell merchandise and hang out with the animals
  • Help with transports
  • Perform home inspections of potential adopters
  • Hold a fundraiser, donation drive, or adoption event at your business
  • Help us spread the word – what we do, how people/businesses can help, advocate, educate
  • Be creative – we are always open to new suggestions

EDUCATE and ADVOCATE

  • Encourage others to ADOPT – DON’T SHOP!

If you know someone looking for a new pet, remind them to check out the shelter and that there are lots of awesome pets available there.  They’ll be saving a life and discouraging backyard breeders who continue to add to the overpopulation of unwanted animals.

  • Remind people to Spay & Neuter
  • Vaccinating Saves Lives
  • Microchipping Helps Get Animals Home Quickly
  • Preventatives Keep Your Pet Comfortable and Healthy
  • Animal Abuse
